nap time for adults: holiday self-care 101
By on December 8th, 2007
One of my favorite napping spots at home…melt away…
Ok so it’s the holiday season again and I can feel the stress in the air, all around me…Rush rush…hurry, hurry is the collective energy I am picking up. Ok, deep breath here….slow down Cheryl….Time to get into extreme self care mode….
Remember to be kind and loving toward yourself. You deserve it! Read on.
My first suggestion, write the words, “EXTREME SELF CARE” on a piece of paper and put in on your refrigerator. This is a great reminder.
Naps are a such a wonderful way to feel re-energized…I’m not talking several hours here…although that might not be a bad thing….I mean….just melt into your sofa, chair or bed and set your alarm for 30 minutes later at any point during the day…. Even if you can just grap 5 to 10 minutes of steady sleep in your car, do it! It’s so worth it.
I am living proof of that. I have been napping frequently lately and feel so much better when I do. Besides, relaxing and just “being” are incredibly eco-chic–sustainable, beautiful and require no stimulants such as caffeine. Plus they are really great for my complexion….
I think more clearly when I’m rested, and therefore, make better decisions….I also feel much happier when I wake up from my daily infusion of rest….kind of like the kid who is cranky but feels alive and refreshed after nap time…. I love it!
I’m also a much better shopper when I’m well rested. You’d think corporate America might get in on the idea…hmmm…
Here are some great holiday self-care invitations to rest with:
How about this soft and voluptuous wool topper from Lifekind
Don’t you just want to melt into this bed? Organic beds from Lifekind are fabulous, gorgeous, free of any harmful toxins and they are having a sale right now. What a great gift this would be to yourself!

In2green is a series of throw and yoga blankets made from “eco2cotton”, yarns made from pre-consumer clippings that are salvaged from large cut & sew manufactures.
Soft and fabulous, gift yourself with one of these eco-chic blankets, wrap it around you and cuddle up in your favorite spot for a power eco-nap! Or just grap the blanket off your bed or pull one out of the closet and get going….Extreme self-care, yeah baby.
My girl, “Baby” (at right) after waking up from a nap. She’s very happy!
This organic leaf patterned rug is made out of wool and is very affordable from West Elm.
Naps are inspiring my world right now. I’ve asked my friends who readily admit they are closet nappers. What’s the big deal? Let’s embrace it and bring it out into the open.

Napping is so nice on these cold dark days of winter. And how eco friendly to turn out all of your lights, turn down the heat and snuggle with a warm blanket and a warm dog or cat.

Yummy nap room!!! It looks very inviting in there. Fun to see what you have done in there. Oh, and I am a HUGE fan of naps. There’s nothing like a good “power nap” when I am feeling spent - 20 minutes, and I am GOOD TO GO! Thanks for the courage to fess up about it. Lead the way, sister… lead the way… I’m right by your side on this one!!!
