why it’s important to continue to spend our money

With all the news of a recession spreading across the globe these days via the negative tentacles of the media, it would seem that it’s not currently in fashion to spend our money, and the message is fear-based, often translated to ‘keep as much money in your pockets as possible.’

While I support creative gift giving this holiday season and spending in moderation (balance is key), be careful not to cut off the source entirely. Continuing to spend our money is important in maintaining a Universal balance of energy.

As Deepok Chopra points out, “Money is energy and when the flow of it is stopped, it is like stopping the flow of blood in our veins which then coagulates, creating a block.”

I agree. Money moves in and out of our lives like our breath and keeping the flow of it at an open-healthy pace, will only continue to benefit us and the rest of the world.

I’m not suggesting to go out and buy yourself a new car (if you can’t afford one), or put another high-priced ticket item on your Visa card.  What I am suggesting is to remember to take care of yourself by gifting yourself with small abundance items like your favorite book or sweet treat. Bottom line: keep the flow moving.

It’s funny. I now understand what my grandmother and many of those of her generation who lived through the Great Depression, felt about money. She wasn’t a hoarder by any means and continued to live her life in the flow of giving and receiving (much of that was money), especially to her grandchildren. She did however, always spend in moderation (she wasn’t a rich woman), kept things in balance (as much as possible), and always treated herself to her favorite (and expensive) Neopolitan ice cream.

When the .com boom of the 90’s crashed, she lost a substantial amount of money in the market. Yet, when I asked her about it, she simply shrugged her shoulders and gave me that ‘oh well’ look. And that was that. Because she had lived through the Great Depression, she had seen her money come and go and understood the nature of its movement.

Money is energy. It comes and goes, ebbs and flows. How about this holiday season, we remember our gifts to ourselves, our loved ones and the Universe by continuing to move it? Let’s stay open and abundant to receive the gifts that we so deserve. It’s only going to get better from here.

Cheryl you are dead on…with balance, a spirit of giving, receiving, and allowing the money that we have to flow, we’ll keep it all moving. Wonderful entry.
