releasing internal baggage is one powerful path to freedom

The symbology of luggage is important to our inner state of being. It represents our material possessions and how when purged, can bring about the most wonderful sense of lightness.

My Goddess niece Carolina is in town right now (!!) and last night we happened to watch the beautiful film “Darjeeling Limited“….By the end of the movie I was inspired to share some thoughts around clearing clutter or in the movie’s case, “releasing your baggage.” Either one fits the symbology of carrying around both internal and external baggage….and how releasing it, is an important step to freedom. Can anyone relate?

Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson in the film Darjeeling Limited..

The premise of the film is centered around three brothers who get together for a train ride in India where all their “internal baggage” or life’s issues (including their histories together) come up in a powerful way. One symbolic item that caught my eye was all the luggage they carried around (shown in first photo) in a culture that doesn’t put a lot of importance on material things, mainly out of economic reasons but also Spiritual ones. Without giving it away, there is a powerful release by the end of the film that allows the audience to take a deep long breath.

Lots of clutter in a space, can cause headaches and stop us from any forward momentum…

So, in my experience as a Feng Shui Consultant, I have seen many a space with clutter issues. Many of us struggle with collecting items that build-up over time and just sit in our living and/or work spaces. It then becomes a challenge to remove our “stuff.” I’d have to say that purging is one of the most simple and effective ways to shift your life into another direction. I know it can be challenging to actually do it, but let me tell you. I’ve seen lives change (including my own).

This is the internal light space feeling after purging….Nice huh? Once you’ve had a taste of it, it’s hard to go back.

Curious? Well, if it feels too overwhelming, just start small….And remember…You can always get help. There are many organizing consultants out there who will loving support and guide you….Ask me for help.

Last note: Remember, when purging, recycle and give away. You are helping the planet…

Oh Cheryl! I love this movie and am so glad you and Carolina got a chance to see it. And what a perfect platform to launch into clutter. I am looking at my desk right now - embarrased and thinking it’s time to clean up before I get anymore work done!
