(praise the heavens) christopher buckley endorses obama

Here I go again, writing a bit more about politics on PPnG, but I considered, under the circumstances of global panic, why not report on something positive and worth celebrating?

This handsome man (well…isn’t he?), Christopher Buckley, who is the son of ultra-staunch conservative William F. Buckley and once chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush, has decided to endorse Obama. It’s the first time in his life he’s voting Democrat.

Um, yes, you heard me right.

“It’s a good thing my dear old mum and pup are no longer alive. They’d cut off my allowance,” Buckley, a columnist for the conservative National Review, wrote on the Web site The Daily Beast yesterday.

That’s huge and says a lot about the current climate. Buckley goes on to explain;

“This campaign has changed John McCain. It has made him inauthentic. A once-first class temperament has become irascible and snarly; his positions change, and lack coherence; he makes unrealistic promises, such as balancing the federal budget ‘by the end of my first term.’ Who, really, believes that?”

“Then there was the self-dramatizing and feckless suspension of his campaign over the financial crisis,” Buckley added. “His ninth-inning attack ads are mean-spirited and pointless. And finally, not to belabor it, there was the Palin nomination. What on earth can he have been thinking?”

Buckley also praises Obama for his “first-class temperament and first-class intellect.”

Thank-you Mr. Buckley for coming out and sharing your change of heart with the world. It’s very inspiring.

I’m about to fast samba to celebrate.
