london retro café in a 1960’s commuter train

I was immediately won over by the pink lamp shades and the funkiness of this retro-themed cafe in a 1960’s commuter train in south east London’s Deptford. So here’s the deal. Graphic designer Morag Myerscough has created the Deptford Project Café to revitalize the old railway yard which is home to London’s first suburban railway station, built in 1836, but no longer running. This summer, the area will also host music and art events. How fun.

According to the website their coffee is sourced from sustainable farming projects around the world which is then roasted and packed in the UK. The food is homemade from ingredients sourced locally.

The bathroom (shown above) is a garden shed and a shrine to Elvis Presley. ‘Visitors are invited to photograph themselves as ‘The King’ in the painted mirror and text the pictures for display in the shed.’ Source: Dezeen. That’s cute and makes me giggle. Wonder how Elvis would’ve felt about that.
