getting green on nw 23rd avenue

I was out and about the other day with contributing PPnG photographer Philip Morgan, walking along trendy NW 23rd Avenue in Portland looking for interesting people to photograph and interview for Green Streets –a snapshot of green lifestyles worldwide — when we bumped into the eco-friendly clothing store, ‘Same Underneath’.
We spoke to founder Ryan Christensen (shown here) about his personal and professional views on sustainability:
PPnG: How do you practice green living?
RC: I grew up recycling and had positive role models. My partner and I sold our second vehicle and are conscious about how we move from point A to point B. We also buy organic and believe in supporting the local economy.
As Ryan continued to share his concepts around his work at Same Underneath, I found passion and purpose in his voice. He explained how positivity and perseverance were important concepts to him and how he considered himself an educator in the concept of sustainability. He spoke fondly of his grandfather and said, “My grandfather once told me that it is better to regret the things you do instead of the things you don’t do because if you happen to regret something you did, most likely you will have learned from it.” Sounds like an affirmation to shoot for your dreams and reach high.
