a dutch designer and his LED bubble light

‘What’s this?’ you might wonder. Well, it’s the latest lighting design by dutch Eric Klarenbeek and it’s showing in the Wonder Room at Selfridges department store in London through October. Very eco-schwanky yes. The Lucid Dream (very appropriate name) is an illuminating hand-blown glass bubble which features an LED with an intended lifespan of 50,000 hours and only uses 6 watts of electricity. This is my favorite part:

By combining Led-lights with the ability of glass to transmit light by internal reflection, the light source disappears and the entire surface of the bubble glows as a soap bubble. Capturing a moment in a flood of energy. Source: Dezeen

That would look cool over a dining room table.

More on the designer here.

Eco-chic and sexy vegetarianism

Alicia Silverstone professing her pink skin in a green world. Oh it’s so very sexy and eco-chic. This earth lover told UK TV host Graham Norton she put her four dogs on a vegan diet…”As a perk of the dogs’ no-meat diet,” Alicia swears, “They don’t fart anymore.” That’s hot girl.

Our freaky shopping culture

Photographic exhibit by Valerie Green in Los Angeles, maps out shopping habits by pinning consumers to the wall. Very clever. Check it out.

Wait. Where’s the boy’s head? Powerful symbology indeed.

So here’s the deal as reported by MoCo Loco,

Valerie Green created a sculptural photo installation of 583 shoppers in several retail districts of Los Angeles in the period that falls between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas. Called Black Friday because retailers go from being in the red to in the black, this day is often the opposite for consumers who accumulate more debt along with goods. Green arranged the shoppers by district and shopping bag to form an installation that flows along gallery walls. The viewer is at first fascinated by the detail and the painstaking work, then becomes overwhelmed by the sheer numbers, and finally the very meaning of the piece.”

I’m inspired. What a powerful reminder to shop consciously. I do love to shop but in moderation and with a concern for the environment and humanity.

Kiss For Peace, Make Love Not War…Yeah Baby!

Ok, one of my favorite anti-war groups, CodePink, ran a Valentine’s Day campaign this year ‘08 in major cities called, “Don’t Enlist, Stay and Kiss, That Way Everyone Makes Out.

Anyway, I just saw this video posted on U-tube and had to share it with you…And yeah, I’m not a total Bob Dylan fan but I do love this song and believe he is a true poet.

Watch it and love it!

May we all kiss for peace and spread the love…Honoring all you peacemakers out there.

Happy Tuesday!
