how to maximize smaller spaces at home

Office space in a bedroom. Hidden and lovely without introducing into the sleeping area.

It’s so very green to reduce our footprint on the planet and that includes getting creative with smaller spaces and making it work. Just saw these beautiful images posted on Apartment Therapy via House to Home and wanted to share them here.

Contemporary office in a small space and office storage in a dining room. Love these ideas.

Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle Healing the Planet…

Oprah Winfrey is currently having a live web event that has drawn 2 million viewers so far…Oh my Goddess…

Have you eco-lovers heard about Oprah’s live web series with Eckhart Tolle discussing his new book (chapter by chapter), “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose?” What an impact those two have together. It just gives me the chills. Her platform and voice and his vision make for powerful positive change in this world. Talking about healing the planet….

I can tell you this. Eckhart Tolle’s books have spoken to my heart (and millions of others) in times of light and dark. As I re-read through his latest, I keep having those “aha” moments that Oprah often talks about. The energy is spreading and vibrations are high…

oh sweet office remodel, you light my fire

After photo of my recent remodeled back studio space…Oh baby…

Ok, here it is! and it’s totally eco-fabulous…What am I talking about?….you might wonder…Well, as you know I recently remodeled my back studio space (check out the before photos posted on 12/13/07) and converted it into my official office. It’s quite empowering you know…..located in the wealth and fame area of the property and….I totally feel it….

Another fabulous view of my throne room, oh Divine One..I am in love…

The amazing thing—I did it all with eco-chic love….eco-insulation from Ecohaus…so many eco’s here…

Anyway, when I sit at my desk, I feel arms embracing me, keeping me warm and insulated. The walls are painted with low voc paint, Water 01 from Yolo Colorhouse. Miguel Hernandez, craftsman extraordinaire (e-mail him at: miguelanh@comcast.net) worked with the existing structure, recycled everything he (and his brother Martin) tore down.

I got that wonderful used side door for $150 (made by Pella!) right here in Portland at The Rebuilding Center on Mississippi Ave. I also re-used the carpet, pompazon chair and speaking of chairs….Oh….the Herman Miller chair…well, all Herman Miller products are green…and an adorable eco-chic light fixture from Schoolhouse Electric

This is my view, sitting at my desk…outdoor living space…in my love area no less….Oh blessings…That window used to be in the garage…

My sweet, smiling Buddha handcrafted from stone, gazes upon me….

The other view….water fountain in the wealth area…Miguel made this for me…She is crossing her arms at her heart…feel the abundance…I am so grateful…

Oh entry way….She is a refurbished door that was just lying around in the studio….Miguel just sanded it and stained it lightly.

After morning meditation and practicing the harmonium (just got it!), I make my way outside to this lovely space. As I step into it, my Spirit is happy and I’m ready to work. Oh throne room, you perfectly represent who I am and where I am going…Hallelujah…

I highly recommend creating a work space for yourself. It doesn’t cost that much and the investment in yourself is priceless…No, I’m not a Mastercard commercial….

It was totally affordable and completely eco-friendly……I just did my research and found that everything eco was comparable in price to the other toxic products that cause cancer….On your next remodel project, just leap into the world of eco-chic….The net will appear…It always does and you will love yourself for doing it!

For more information, comments or questions, e-mail or post here…I’ll be happy to answer them…

sitting down with herman miller

Introducing the fabulous eco-chic Herman Miller Aeron chair designed by Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf.

Sitting in this sexy, supportive, ergonomic and totally eco-chic chair from Herman Miller feels like the mountain behind me lending me all the strength of the earth running along my spine….feels soooo good! With that kind of strength, who knows what I can accomplish…plus, it’s really good Feng Shui.

Ok, so as you may have guessed, I just purchased this chair for my new office space and it’s definitely one of the best investments I’ve made. It falls under the category of extreme self-care…..Check out yesterday’s blog for an update on my remodel.

My darling friend and Organizing Consultant extraordinaire, Elsa Jewett with All In Good Order, LLC is coming to Portland tonight from Denver to help me organize my office and get my s*** together. I am so grateful! We are going to work all Saturday and Sunday to create a fabulous earth friendly office system! By Monday, I’ll be ready…..So stay tuned, since I will share it all here.

Look at this amazing lower back support. Herman Miller, I love you!

Not only is this chair sleek and supportive but it is also totally earth friendly. Herman Miller cares about the environment as is reflected in every product they manufacture. Actually they’ve been doing it way before the word green or eco-chic caught on.

The Aeron Chair is comprised of 62% recycled materials including re-used coke bottles. Yeah baby!

As stated in their literature, “The recycled content breaks down to 41 percent post-consumer and 21 percent pre-consumer content. Aeron’s raw material selection and sourcing process emphasizes environmental friendliness, with a preference for renewable, sustainable and recycled source materials including recycled pop bottles.” Gotta love that!

Sitting in this chair reminds me of something one of my feng shui teachers (Terah Kathyrn Collins) once shared about the harmonious placement of a home. The strong, ergonomic chair is like sitting in the belly of the dragon—with a mountain at your back and sides for support, and the ocean in front….

My body thanks you Herman, darling.
