being successful in business starts with self-care

I will often sit here in silence to give myself some love…It’s almost nap time…
For those of you who read my blog you know I place self-care high on the list of priorities, especially for entrepreneurs. With our often-times frenetic schedules–building our businesses, raising children and managing our relationships, it’s no wonder most of us put ourselves last. That oftentimes leads to burnout, depression and/or other not-so-good physical conditions. Let’s talk for a minute about the importance of bringing sanity and balance into our lives. After all, how are we going to go the distance with our business(es) if we don’t stop to take a deep breath, relax our shoulders and maybe sit in silence for a minute or two? You can do this.
Here are my three tips (yes, they’ve been tested) on how to bring sanity and balance into our lives. According to feng shui principles, it takes just 30 days to change a habit. So start with one tip and see what happens…
1) Upon waking up in the morning, take three slow deep breaths and think of three things that you are grateful for. That could be your bed, your family, your cat, maybe? It’s easy. Simply fill in the blank (in your mind) after, “I am grateful for ________.” Even if you don’t feel anything at first, keep going…
2) Create a place (even a tiny one) in your home, just for you. This could be the corner of a room, your bed or a strategically placed chair near a window. Give yourself at least 15 minutes (more is better) in the morning and at least 15 minutes in the evening of alone time. That means, no animals, husbands, or children allowed near you. You can do it! Just sit, breathe and stare at the walls if you like. Listen to the silence and let your body relax…This really works. Make it a habit.
3)Shift your attitude from “I feel guilty” or “I don’t time” to “I am worth it” and “I do have time.” Remember to mentally note when you are resisting self-care and immediately change it. We are so worth it! We work hard every day taking care of others. Don’t you think it’s time we start taking care of ourselves first? I do and I practice it every day and I can tell you—self-care makes for a happier, healthier person and we are worth it.
What do you think?

As a mental health therapist, I endorse all of the recommended self-care activities Cheryl has outlined. It is absolutely essential that we take care of ourselves with the hectic lives we lead. Thank you, Cheryl for sending this message to the Eco-Chic community!
