Philip Morgan
Philip Morgan is a technology communicator and a photographer. He was born on August 2, 1974 on St. Thomas and for the first six years of his life, was exposed to the soul rhythms and flavors of island life. In his technical work, he helps write courses for Microsoft and teaches focused, hands-on technology workshops. His passion lies in photography that captures the essence of the heart. As Philip explains, “The hope of photography is not to ‘capture’ something as we might apprehend a criminal. Rather the hope is to illustrate or illuminate something largely unseen by our culture. In this way, photography is a process of enlarging meaning, not a police exercise. Perhaps it’s just semantics, but I prefer to think of the photographer as illustrator rather than stenographer or cop.” Philip lives in Portland, Oregon with his dog Malcolm and practices green living.

I made this photograph while walking down the street in my neighborhood, in the window of a store that sells all kinds of wild and crazy posters, lamps, and other knick knacks.
I was interested by the layers in this picture, how the more ethereal layer of the poster with its images of the women underlies [...] -
Recently I purchased some Compact Fluorescent (CF) bulbs for some bedside lamps. As I thought about the bulb choices available to me in the lighting aisle of the local supermarket, I was reminded that sometimes eco-friendly products come in eco-unfriendly packaging. Pictured to the left is the bulb I ended up purchasing.
There were some CF [...] -
It seems that photographers cannot resist photographing the Veratrum Californicum or the corn lily. As we were relaxing by Mirror Lake in Oregon, I turned to my girlfriend Cheryl and snarkily said, “Look, there’s the most cliche photograph in the book right there. A corn lily!” The next day, I was helplessly drawn to a [...]
