al gore planet update; collective pressure on government

So as I began to watch this TED talk given by Al Gore, at first I didn’t want to listen. Don’t get me wrong. I love Al Gore. I know we are in a serious global crisis and change is the only way. However, I’d been feeling optimistic in the “we” as a collective species these days, raising consciousness around product choices and alternative energy options which are now becoming more and more available. I knew that listening to the talk would bring more awareness around what still needs to be done. It’s scary (hence my resistance) but more important than ever to pay close attention. I’m glad I did.

As I listened I had a reconfirmed “aha” moment where I went, “yeah, ok, ok Al, I really get it”–policy changes must be included in healing this beautiful planet of ours. And that needs to happen NOW.

You know me, I’d rather support the private sector of people, places and things that are really making changes instead of looking towards the political system. And the private sector is a powerful force! However, we as a collective must put pressure on government leaders and policy makers who can effectively help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

Now that a new political system is on the horizon, I am ready to do my part and support those who are working towards new laws that protect our only true resource—Mother Earth. How about you?

It’s so important to vote this year. It’s all about the planet. Let’s get on it people.

When I saw An Inconvenient Truth, and when I now watch this TED talk, I sense within myself a strong kernel of light that represents the part that I play, or will play, personally, in responding to the climate crisis, however insignificant it may seem in the grand scheme of things. I am very thankful for the work Al Gore is doing and the inspiration he brings, and I hope that for every one of us that posts a public comment, like me, there are countless others who feel the same way.

It was so nice to see this one because I have been to that store with you. I am sure that is how the Portlanders feel because they know all the places you talk about and show on your vlogs.

This was really cute! Good job sister! I am so proud of you.
