office of the future in the woods
By on June 19th, 2009

Here it is again; architects thinking outside of the box…or in this case, creating a new kind of a box, outside of the city of Madrid in Spain, and tucked away in a beautiful forest.

Spanish architects Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano of Selgascano have designed this fabulous office for their own practice…in the woods.
Could this be the set of The Sci-Fi Channel’s Caprica? (The latest spin-off of Battlestar Galactica)

Yes, the energy moving through the space is sped-up. However, the surrounding naturescape keeps it in balance.

More details from the architects translated from the Spanish by me:
The intention here is very simple; to work under the trees. In order to achieve that effect, we wanted to create as much transparency as possible. However, we also needed create shade over the areas of the tables and work space.

Night time view of the office. Kind of feels like a secret hiding place where creative minds come together.
I love the concept.

I know what you mean, but on the other hand, there is balance and our creative expression comes from that place (imho).

Ummm… be nice… be nice… be nice?
No, sorry, but I have to speak my mind…
That is possibly the ugliest piece of architectural design that I have ever seen!
It looks like something Barbie should come packaged with and defaces the beauty of nature with which it is surrounded. Rather than showing this monstrosity off, I’d be hanging my head in shame. I’d like to say something positive about this, but I don’t really like the interior design either. Plastic has never been a good sign of quality to me.
I suppose with all that transparency, it’d be pretty easy to heat. Is that nice enough?

Hi Jim,
I do appreciate your comment and respect your opinion. I still love the concept and the building which (to me) works to compliment the surrounding nature scape with a modern concept. That type of environment with respect to it, contributes to the balance much needed in human creativity. It (the concept) also thinks outside of traditional work spaces and contributes to an elevated state of human work psychology. That translates to a healthier lifestyle that supports fresh ideas.
