portland’s better living show puts the eco in my smile

I had such a blast yesterday, filming and meeting inspiring, passionate people, organizations and businesses that are working towards positive change on our Mother Earth. “What chu talking about Cheryl?”…you might ask…I tend to ramble…you’ll have to excuse me…Rewind.

Ok, so an eco-fabulous event is going on this weekend (3/28-3/30/08) — The Portland Sustainable Living Show at the Portland Expo Center and Jimmy (my videographer) and I have been right in the middle of all the eco-happenings. With over two hundred exhibitors, a presentation by Ed Begley, Jr. and today’s eco-fashion event, it’s no surprise that it is the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

Yeah, baby….We love that…Keep it rollin’.

We’ve got some excellent footage that you are going to LOVE. Entertaining and ethical eco-chic living are words to describe my day yesterday…with more to come today…I’ll be posting short video blogs next week for your viewing pleasure…Can’t wait!

a hy-bird plane and its sexy zero emissions

Is this the sexiest luxury plane you’ve ever seen? It’s as silent as a mouse and is solely powered by an electric engine…Can you imagine the meditative experience that would be up there? I’m in….

Okay, so most likely it will still be some years before travelers can book a flight on a Hy-Bird, according to Lisa Airplanes, the maker of this beauty but it will make its round the world trip in summer 2009.

Hmm…What’s it made of? Well, it’s lightweight carbon fibre and weighs in at just 1.1 tons…Even more details…The tail and wings–20 meters or 65 feet tip to tip–are outfitted with photovoltaic cells to supply energy for takeoff and onboard power supply.:: Source: Ode Magazine, April 2008

Check out those wings soaking up all that solar power. May this be the wave of the future. I fee like a bird.

Be Green and Recycle Your Crocs…

Recycling your crocs my love, will help shoe humanity worldwide…

Being eco-chic includes recycling our baby crocs after we given them some good lovin’….I just read about a maverick program through Soles United that is the first-of-its-kind recycled footwear donation program.

Here’s how it works (as explained by the organization)…”Give back your worn-out crocs shoes to be recycled into new shoes and they will be donated to people in need around the world. By taking the pledge you can help make a difference in the lives of people in impoverished regions of the world.”

I love the idea…Click here for info on participating retailers

living like ed: a new book on daily eco-living

Ed Begley, Jr. actor and eco-activist.

Okay, so I just got Ed Begley Jr.’s new book, “Living Like Ed” at one of my favorite local haunts, Powell’s Book Store. Funny thing, when I picked it up and read the introduction (written by Ed’s wife Rachelle), I was immediately drawn in. It was a familiar female voice speaking to me. She describes her early days while dating Ed, her challenges of combining green and chic and the influence he has had on her life. I appreciated her candor as she spoke of the challenges combining her love of aesthetics with sustainability. That’s definitely the “pink” on this planet.

Anyway, I’m already way into the book. It’s user friendly, filled with important and useful eco-living tips and there is a raw integrity in Ed’s voice which I really appreciate.

Green Bonus: I’m hoping I’ll get to meet you, Ed, this weekend March 28-30 while you are here in Portland, OR at the Sustainable Better Living Home and Garden Show and maybe interview you (?) for Planetpinkngreen.com…I’d love to share your voice with others…

Oh, sweet little lady bug, thank-you for being so adorable and helping to heal our planet…

Ok, so you get it right? I’m completely enamored with the lady bug…Aren’t we all?…After I heard this eco-news on Treehugger, I went all mushy, gushy….

Check this out…”The Coalition of Environmentally Conscious Growers, a partnership of farmers dedicated to the continuance of sustainable farming practices, is making this Earth Day (April 22nd!) memorable for a group of 4th graders in Oregon. They’ll be working together with them to release tens of thousands of ladybugs in a bid to help these kids better understand that there are natural alternatives to chemical pesticides.”

That’s 250, 000 to be exact. How beautiful. Anyone wanna go hang out with the ladies? For more details, click here.
